Overview


Summarizing and Note taking is a research based strategy. Teachers provide summary frames for students to provide them with some direction to specific content. Teachers will also use this summarizing/ note taking strategy to help students by providing a model (key concepts) of what is important information for note taking.

Teacher prepared notes show students what is important and how ideas relate, and offer a model for how students should take notes themselves (Marzano et al., 2001, as cited on Focus on Effectiveness website).
