    14' Delta Rockwell band saw (Pittsburgh)

    I am a 61 year old female that just purchased a 14' Delta Rockwell band saw and I am having a heck of a time locating the model number on the machine. One of the 'covers' is missing and I have a funny feeling that, that is where the information is located. I have several other numbers on it, but, when I try to order parts it denies me access. if there is anyone out there that thinks they can identify my machine from pictures that I can end them or my the numbers on the machine I wouild be very appreciative. I can't use it otherwise. PLEASE HELP !!! ???

    What parts are you looking for? Most of the import 14' saws are knock offs of that saw and a lot of the parts are interchangeable. I bought an older 14' Jet saw and broke one of the trunnions in moving it. I tried a couple of times to order a new one at a parts and repair shop. None of the numbers worked. I went to the local tool store that stocks a couple of brands of 14' saws to see if the trunnion was the same on a modern saw so I could get a modern saw model number. I explained what I wanted to do to one of the store owners, he replied 'trunnion, I get you one' . He then looked through a drawer or two and pulled out a matching trunnion. You may be able to find the parts from a matching import machine easier.
    The former salesman for the pattern shop supplier here in Canada used to work as a patternmaker for Delta Rockwell. He told me they had a feature on one of the patterns for a 14' bandsaw that they had used for setup or hold down for machining of the castings. They developed a better system for machining so ground part of the feature off the pattern (aluminum or iron pattern) but part of it was not worth the hassle to grind it off. Many years later he looked at an import saw and it had this same now useless feature on it.

    Look up OWWM.
    Then find Delta equipment.
    Then look for publications related to band saws.
    They have a lot of owners manuals and most have part numbers.
    The 14' delta has not changed much in the past 50 years. So if your looking for a more basic part, its probably still made.
    Things like blade gudes, tires, knobs can be found from other sources. Look in popular woodworking catalogs like Woodworkers supply, Grizzly, Rockler, etc.
    The name badge on older delta equipment is usualy on the base or stand. Older units have a small tag about 1/2 inch x 2 in long with a model number and SN
    Later units made after Rockwell bought them are too new for me to know much about.
    Mine was missing the lower blade guard. After pricing Deltas, I welded up my own. E-Bay will be another good choice for this part.
    They have not change much, and even the imports are close enough copies that they will work.
    I heard a manager at an importer of SE asian machines remark that they had asked a company to copy a Delta saw, and he had a container load of them, all with the same serial number as the one he wanted copied.

    I just had the same problem. After looking at OWWM I found a mention of 'Mikes Tools .com' , easy to order from and no model needed. You may need to look at several of the listed 14s but the parts are there. Good luck...

    Delta 14' bandsaws HAVE changed over the years. One change several years ago was to using a round post instead of the older and nicer hexagonal post for raising or lowering the upper guides and blade guard. More recent models have their doors hinged on,rather than just coming off when you remove 2 plastic knobs. The shape of those doors has ben modified,too,to help with the addition of hinges. Recently,the 14' arm has been cast open sided,rather than the older,more rigid completely enclosed vertical arm.
    If you could describe these features on your saw,it would help to identify which model it is.(whether new or old).

    The model, series/serial number is on the rear of the base casting just below where it attaches to the arm. If yours is not there, I would look for two small rivet holes which would indicate that your tag is missing. Rockwell put badges on the wheel guards but not model numbers. As has already been suggested, I would go to the vintagemachinery site,& look through the manuals & compare features to your machine. For example, there 3 styles of wheels, open/enclosed arm casting etc. You can figure out the vintage of your machine by a process of elimination.
